A SWARM OF DRAGONFLIES
DUO SHOW AT 82 PARRIS JOE SASSO & EMMA MCHOLD-BURKE
Joe Sasso is an audio engineer and electronics tinkerer. They use malfunctioning, second hand consumer electronics to reconcile, learn from and repurpose shame, grief and pride. They aim to bridge the gaps between themes of consonance and dissonance, nature and human intervention, and cemetery and landfill.
Emma McHold-Burke’s indirect approach to painting attempts to prove that impermanence is not something to be resolved. “Paintings” that can only be seen at a certain angle, shadows that cannot be held, and images that are both recognizable and unremarkable ask the viewer to extend patience, forgiveness, and/or grace to the work, the artist, and perhaps even themselves.
A Swarm of Dragonflies showcases both artist’s deep understanding of loss and encourages visitors to follow them into the depths of something uncomfortable in order to arrive on the other side of acceptance.
